Andy Samberg's Post-SNL projects

Andy Samberg's Post-SNL projects

On the bright side, I'm looking forward to Andy and Adam's forthcoming movie, That's My Boy, coming out on 6/15/2012.

A Letter to Shawn Pelton

06/04/2012

Dear Shawn,

I didn't forget your birthday a few days ago, it's just that it was a very busy day for me. I hope that you got what you wanted for your birthday, even if the New York Mets FINALLY executed a no-hitter for the first time in the team's history, that is if you're a baseball fan.

I cannot wait until September or October when Saturday Night Live returns from it's Summer hiatus. By that time, you will begin your 21st year with the SNL Band. Since you joined 2 decades ago, a lot has happened that's too much for me to write down, but you've seen it happen.

Have a wonderful, albeit belated, birthday. And I cannot wait until the Fall for the aforementioned show's return.

Signed,
Callie

Alamo City braces for Hurricane Mango

SNL alum Kattan makes S.A. debut

The show: Former “Saturday Night Live” star Chris Kattan, creator of such memorable characters as Mango and Mr. Peepers, made his first appearance at Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club on Thursday. Kattan performs at LOL through Sunday; two shows tonight and Saturday with comics Jeffrey Richards and Barry Rothbart.

Attendance: About 250

First take: The comedic actor known for Groundlings-style sketch improv only recently embraced stand-up comedy — four months ago to be exact. He's a good sport about his “SNL” image and taps into that old magic as needed. “You like Mango?” he teased. Then Kattan transformed into the hysterical, mouthy politically incorrect diva: “Why does everybody think I'm the homo gay?” Later, he would add devilishly, “It's uncomfortable seeing a kid that's a Mango fan.”

'SNL' kiss 'n' tell: About his monkey-like “SNL” character Mr. Peepers: “That was very hard to write,” he said, “write” being the operative word. He explained that he usually just needed a piece of fruit and someone's face. He also dissed past “SNL” hosts (Cameron Diaz's bad laugh and Jennifer Anniston's bad breath). Kattan, who has emceed the show, too, confessed that he's a stand-up novice. “But I've got charm,” he said. Kattan's physical comedy and quirky (sometimes brutal) asides garnered huge laughs.

SNL remembers Whitney Houston

During last night's show with Zooey Deschanel (FOX's New Girl) and musical guest Karmin, the show took a moment to post a pic with Molly Shannon as Mary Katherine Gallagher and Whitney Houston as the star of a parochial school's annual Christmas show.

Whitney, as everyone has heard by now, died at 3:55 PM PST in Los Angeles in her hotel room from (as of this typing) unknown causes, but rumored to be drug-related. Ms. Houston leaves behind her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, from her marriage to New Edition alumni, Bobby Brown.

Whitney also performed on the show twice before as a musical guest. Here is a rehearsal of Ms. Houston performing All the Man I need from the 2/23/1991 episode hosted by Alec Baldwin:

We will miss you, Whitney.
